Alexis Ortega

Alexis Ortega was born and raised in Palm Springs, CA. She graduated with her BA in Economics at Stanford University in 2009. While at Stanford, Alexis was heavily involved in campus LGBT groups, and during her senior year she volunteered for the Obama campaign and the No on Prop 8 campaign. Shortly after Prop 8 passed, she helped organize National Marriage Boycott, a student-led movement of allies and LGBTQ people that pledged not to marry until full federal marriage equality became the law of the land. Alexis returned to the desert shortly after graduation, during the economic downtown, where she’s maintained her tie to Stanford through the Stanford Club of the Desert, and continued her passion for LGBT causes. Since 2010, Alexis has poured her energy into bringing Desert AIDS Project in the digital age as part of the Marketing & Communications team. She has served on the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast Committee for the past three years, and has helped organized local lesbian and queer women events, most notably with Delfina Zarate and Marie Elloso as part of Boudoir Entertainment (B.E.). She currently serves as Secretary on the board of Leadership Coachella Valley.
